The Soulful Letterpress

Me? Creative?

Feb 20, 2023

Here I am…. Way outside of my comfort zone! And that is exactly how I know I am where I am supposed to be… launching my love of letterpress printing as a small business. Not going to lie, it is scary taking this big step forward, but, how else is one to grow?

My friend Sheri Oneal is helping me launch my website with a feature story of Nanotype Letterpress on her podcast, The Creative Push. The Creative Push is an intimate and diverse artist interview series where artists and makers of all kinds share tips, advice, knowledge, and inspiration that you can learn from. Never in a million years would I have thought I would be sharing space with a glassblower, a fiber artist, singers and songwriters, a carousel woodcarver, bakers and chefs, and painters. Me? Creative? Well, I guess we all are more creative than we may realize.

I have always enjoyed making things with my hands. Growing up just three houses down the street from my Mammaw, I enjoyed learning how to cross stitch and needlepoint with her, and if we made one of her secret recipe poundcakes together, we made hundreds. As much as I loved the process of creating the poundcakes, it was the gathering of our family around the table that made it all rewarding. Building community. Sharing stories. The same now holds true with my letterpress craft. I am always curious where the notecards that I create go, what is written in them, what stamp was placed on the envelope, etc. Oh the stories that they tell. The connections that they make.

Sheri Oneal also thrives on connecting creative types. Take a listen to my interview with her to learn more about my creative journey. Maybe, just maybe, something you hear will inspire you to create something with your hands.
